Church Bulletin December 20, 2008-January 3, 2009

4th Sunday of Advent December 21, 2008

“I am the handmaid of the Lord.  May it be done to me according to your Word.”

To observe faithfully this fourth Sunday of Advent, let us follow the example of Mary, who heard the voice of God and, with complete trust, obeyed, having no idea where it would lead.

May we follow the example of Mary’s “yes” to trusting God throughout the great adventure of life.

May we recognize the face of Jesus in the people we encounter, and may our hearts be filled with peace in the midst of the feverish activity around us.

“The Virgin is with child and shall bear a son, and she will call him Emmanuel.”     --Is. 7:14

General Intention: That in the face of a spreading culture of violence the Church, through her apostolic and missionary activities, may courageously promote a culture of life.

Mission Intention: That especially in mission countries, Christians may show with acts of fraternal love that the Child born in the stable at Bethlehem is the luminous Hope of the world.

Holy Father's Prayer Intentions for January 2009:

General Intention: That the family may become more and more a place of training in charity, personal growth, and transmission of the faith.

Mission Intention: That the different Christian denominations, aware of the need for a new evangelization in this period of profound transformations, may be committed to announcing the Good News and moving toward the full unity of all Christians in order to offer a more credible testimony of the Gospel.

CTK Youth Group

The Youth Group went bowling Sunday, December 14, after Mass and shared lunch together.  We had a blast!  Our bowling skills may be somewhat lacking, but we have mastered the art of having fun!  We wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

The CTK Youth Group meets across the street in the Pastoral Center on the second Sunday of each month just after Sunday Mass.  Next month the group plans to visit a facility for the elderly in our area.

This will be a great life-learning experience for the young people, and will also provide some fellowship with our local neighbors.

Anyone who would like more information about this active and fun program may contact Bruce or Janice Brooks at 706-663-0096.

There will be a training session for new students who are interested in joining our team of altar servers on:

SUNDAY, JANUARY 25, AT 11:45 A.M.

Members must have received their First Holy Communion.

Outreach Program

Some of you may have noticed that we did not have a “Giving Tree” this year. This is because our parishioners have been living out the Spirit of “Christmas Giving” all year round, not just for a day or a week.

The economic down-turn causing a lack of jobs, the cold weather in November and the rise in the cost of utilities and food, have kept us busy trying to help families with propane gas, electricity, water and some food.

We had 116 visitors throughout the year 2008 at a cost of over $17,000.00. This expense was met by designated contributions from our parishioners, our pastor, and Diocesan Subsidies.

The Outreach Office would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support though-out the past year and wish you a very Merry Christmas and a blessed

and prosperous New Year!

Parishioners

MAKE A GIFT THROUGH AN IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER.

If you are over the age of 70 ½, you must take a required minimum distribution from your IRA.

Normally, this distribution is taxed as ordinary income.

However, federal legislation enacted on October 3, 2008 extends the opportunity for you, for the remainder of 2008 and throughout 2009, to make a direct distribution from your IRA to a qualified charity, such as Christ the King Church.

Such distributions, while not subject to income tax will still count toward fulfilling your required minimum distribution.

For more information about how you and the Church can benefit from an IRA charitable rollover, contact the parish office or the Diocesan Director of Stewardship and Development at 972-201-4050.
