Sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary

We are privileged to have sisters from the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary as members of our parish.   The sisters serve in a variety of ways in our community, and help us in our church.    They are:

Sister Mildred Morrissey:  Sister Mildred is is a native of Boston and graduated from Boston State College as a Teacher and then attended Saint Louis University, graduating with a Masters in Social Work.  She spent 20 years in Australia as a teacher and then worked in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.  She was a principal of several schools and now volunteers her time.   In March, 2004 Sister Millie expanded her role with Christ the King when she was appointed Director of Religious Education.

Sister Anne Kelly: Sister Anne's arrival rounds out the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary in our mission parish. Sister Anne spent twenty years in Pakistan, from 1958 to 1978, teaching English to young women who would otherwise not have been able to attend high school. Her last assignment was in Saint Louis where she taught English in the homes of non-English speaking families. She said that "Pakistan stood me in good stead for this assignment". A native of Providence, RI., Sister entered the FMM's after high school. She has been involved in literacy through the years and as her ministry continues to teach English to non-English speakers or those who do not speak the language well. If you or someone you know would benefit from Sister's Anne's ministry, please call her at 663-2783, or at the church office.

OUTREACH SERVICES

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Christ the King Outreach Program is making an effort to meet the needs of the people within our parish boundaries of Harris and Talbot counties, by serving four specific ministries in which parishioners are asked to take an active part.

Prayer Ministry: The foundation of our Parish Outreach program is resting on the prayers of our people. This ministry is open to all parishioners who desire to pray for the people who are serving others and for those who are being served.

Some parishioners may desire to pray in their homes, but there is power found in many persons joining together to pray, for Jesus has said: “Where there are two or three gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them”.

Visitation Ministry: This ministry is vital to our program. There are persons in their own homes, nursing homes, hospices, assisted living places and hospitals that have a need for a visit from caring individuals.

It is appropriate for two volunteers at a time to make these visits.

Writing Ministry: Volunteers may wish to send a card or a written message to the sick, infirmed, widowed, to those who have suffered the loss of someone, those celebrating special events, or to those who are deployed by the military in foreign countries.

Through this compassionate activity, volunteers can bring a spirit of hope and joy to many people.

Office Ministry: The Outreach office hours are Monday-Friday from 10:30 a.m-3:30 p.m.

This ministry requires volunteers who are willing to answer the telephone and/or give some of their time to talk with individuals, who may visit Christ the King in search of someone with whom they can converse.

This program involves cooperation with other agencies. Some food distribution may be required and/or financial assistance arranged. All activity is recorded and kept on file.

“SEEK THE LORD WHERE HE MAY BE FOUND”…especially in those who may have need of our help!
